Terms & Conditions
Last updated: April 2026. These terms govern your use of VehFinder.
1. Who we are
VehFinder (vehfinder.com) is operated by BlueDevLabs, a UK-registered limited company. These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") govern your access to and use of VehFinder. By using VehFinder in any capacity — including browsing, searching, registering, submitting reports, adding sightings, or accessing the platform via any means — you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, you must not use VehFinder.
2. The service
VehFinder provides a free, community-maintained register of stolen vehicles. Core functions include:
- Searching the register by registration plate or VIN
- Submitting theft reports for vehicles stolen from you
- Adding community sightings and comments to existing reports
- Reporting suspicious vehicles via the pre-register
- Verifying vehicle ownership to unlock fuller intelligence
- Accessing a verified police portal (for authorised officers only)
VehFinder is not a law enforcement agency, a government service, or an insurance product. It is a community tool operated by a private company. We do not have access to DVLA, Police National Computer, or any official law enforcement database.
3. Eligibility and registration
You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or submit reports. By registering you confirm you are 18 or over. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account and for all activity that occurs under it. VehFinder uses magic link authentication — no passwords are stored. You must use a valid email address you own. Accounts may not be transferred.
4. Permitted use
You may use VehFinder only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You agree that you will:
- Only submit theft reports for vehicles that have genuinely been stolen from you or from someone who has authorised you to report on their behalf
- Provide accurate, truthful information in all reports, sightings, and communications
- Not submit false, fabricated, or malicious reports
- Not use VehFinder to harass, stalk, defame, or target any individual
- Not attempt to access data, accounts, or systems you are not authorised to access
- Not scrape, crawl, or harvest data from VehFinder by automated means without our written consent
- Not use VehFinder to commit or facilitate any criminal offence
- Not upload malicious code, viruses, or harmful content
- Not impersonate a police officer, VehFinder staff, or any other person
5. Accuracy of reports and community content
VehFinder is a community platform. We do not independently verify every report submitted. Reports, sightings, comments, and suspicious vehicle entries are submitted by members of the public and are not endorsed by VehFinder or BlueDevLabs. We moderate content and remove false or malicious submissions when identified or reported, but we cannot guarantee the accuracy or completeness of any community-submitted information.
By submitting a report you confirm under these Terms that the information is accurate to the best of your knowledge. Knowingly submitting false information — including false theft reports, fabricated sightings, or fraudulent ownership claims — may constitute a criminal offence under the Fraud Act 2006 (England and Wales) and equivalent legislation in other jurisdictions, and we may report such activity to the relevant authorities.
6. Ownership verification
Vehicle owners may submit identity documents (V5C logbook photograph and photo ID) to verify their ownership and unlock fuller intelligence including the full activity timeline. By submitting documents you:
- Consent to those documents being reviewed by our admin team for the sole purpose of verifying your identity against your V5C
- Confirm the documents are genuine and belong to you
- Understand that documents are stored in an encrypted, private storage location and are deleted permanently immediately upon approval or rejection of your claim
- Understand that a brief identity note (e.g. "Name confirmed against V5C — John Smith") will be retained and made visible to verified police officers only, never to the public
Submitting fraudulent or altered identity documents may constitute a criminal offence.
7. Police access
Police officers employed by UK forces may apply for verified police-tier access using a police.uk email address. Applications are manually reviewed and approved at our sole discretion. Approved police accounts receive access to reporter contact details, full sighting coordinates, ownership verification notes, and force-area data exports for the purposes of investigating vehicle theft.
Police users agree to:
- Use police-tier access only for legitimate law enforcement purposes related to vehicle crime investigation
- Not share access credentials or export data with unauthorised parties
- Handle any personal data accessed through VehFinder in accordance with the UK Data Protection Act 2018, UK GDPR, and their force's own data handling policies
- Report any suspected misuse of the platform to VehFinder at admin@vehfinder.com
Misuse of police access, including accessing data for non-law-enforcement purposes, will result in immediate suspension and may be reported to the officer's force and to the ICO.
8. User-generated content
You retain ownership of content you submit to VehFinder (including reports, sightings, comments, and photos). By submitting content, you grant BlueDevLabs a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to store, display, and use that content for the purpose of operating and improving VehFinder. We do not claim ownership of your content.
You are solely responsible for content you submit. You must not submit content that is defamatory, obscene, threatening, harassing, or that infringes any third-party rights including intellectual property rights. We reserve the right to remove any content at our discretion and without notice.
9. Intellectual property
The VehFinder platform, design, code, branding, and original content are owned by BlueDevLabs and are protected by UK and international copyright law. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from any part of the platform without our prior written consent. These Terms do not grant you any licence to use our trademarks or branding.
10. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
VehFinder is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the platform will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free from viruses. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of community-submitted content.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, BlueDevLabs excludes all liability for:
- Loss or damage arising from reliance on community-submitted content
- Indirect, consequential, or incidental losses
- Loss of data, revenue, or profits
- Actions taken by third parties based on information found on VehFinder
Nothing in these Terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded by law.
11. Termination and suspension
We may suspend or terminate your access to VehFinder at any time if we reasonably believe you have breached these Terms, submitted false reports, misused the platform, or engaged in conduct that could harm VehFinder, its users, or third parties. We may remove any content at our discretion. Suspension or termination does not affect any accrued rights or obligations.
12. Third-party services
VehFinder uses the following third-party services to operate. Your use of VehFinder means your data may be processed by these providers in accordance with their own privacy policies:
- Railway — hosting and infrastructure (US/EU)
- Cloudflare R2 — file and document storage (EU)
- Resend — transactional email delivery
- OpenCage — geocoding of location text
- Google Analytics 4 — anonymised usage analytics (consent required)
- CARTO / OpenStreetMap — map tiles (no personal data transmitted)
13. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of VehFinder shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, except where mandatory consumer protection legislation in your jurisdiction provides otherwise.
14. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify registered users of material changes by email or by a prominent notice on the platform at least 14 days before changes take effect. Continued use of VehFinder after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.
